Sabrina Carpenter has achieved a remarkable milestone, joining her friend Taylor Swift on an exclusive list.
According to Billboard, Carpenter's album Short n' Sweet has garnered four Pop Airplay No 1s, marking the first time an artist has reached this threshold since Swift's 1989 album in 2014-2015.
The four singles from Carpenter's album that earned her this distinction are Espresso, Please Please Please, Taste, and Bed Chem.
Released in August 2024, Short n' Sweet has been a significant success for Carpenter.
Swift had previously achieved five Pop Airplay No. 1s from her 1989 album, with hits like Shake It Off, Blank Space, Style, Bad Blood (feat. Kendrick Lamar), and Wildest Dreams.
The Pop Airplay chart, which ranks songs based on weekly plays on mainstream top 40 radio stations, has been a benchmark for success in the music industry.
Carpenter's achievement is unlikely to create any tension between her and Swift, as the two are close friends. In fact, Carpenter has spoken highly of Swift's support for her career.
As the singer told Variety in an interview published in August 2024, "She's one of my best, best friends, and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend."
Carpenter, who opened for Swift on the Eras Tour in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore, values Swift's guidance and perspective on the music industry.
"It's so cool for me to get a perspective on this whole process from her and the community of artists that I feel I'm close to — to get advice from them on stuff that you can't just ask the internet," she explained.
Carpenter also appreciates the opportunity to share her music with Swift and other artists. "We're always playing each other our [music], and whenever I start to think, 'Maybe I'll get on Twitter and say something about this,' I'm always like, 'Maybe I'll write a song instead,'" Carpenter added.
Billboard's Pop Airplay chart has recognized several artists for their achievements, including Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake. Perry holds the current record with six No. 1 singles from her album Teenage Dream.
Lady Gaga and Timberlake are tied with Carpenter, each having four No. 1 singles from their respective albums The Fame and FutureSex/LoveSounds.
