Disney's Coco is renewed for part two.
Disney’s CEO Bob Iger announced the follow-up film during the company’s annual shareholder meeting.
Although the plot hasn’t been revealed yet, the CEO teased what to expect from the film.
"While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humour, heart and adventure," he said. "And we can’t wait to share more soon."
Coco director Lee Unkrich is returning to direct with Adrian Molina. Meanwhile Mark Nielsen, a Pixar veteran known for Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will produce.
The original film in 2017, received both critical acclamation and commercial smash, winning two Oscars for best animated feature and original song for the heartfelt ballad Remember Me. The film grossed over $800 million at the global box office.
The story follows 12-year-old Miguel, who dreams of playing the guitar despite his family’s generations-old ban on music. On the Mexican holiday of Dia de Los Muertos, he ventures to the Land of the Dead to uncover the real story of his ancestors.
The sequel is slated for release in 2029.
