Amanda Seyfried is keeping it real about her skincare struggles, proving once again that even Hollywood stars deal with everyday skin woes.
In a recent Vogue Beauty Secrets video, the Mamma Mia! actress opened up about her long battle with perioral dermatitis, a form of eczema she’s been dealing with since she was 19.
"You might be thinking, 'What's that on her face?'" Seyfried, 39, said with a laugh. "That's my eczema."
She recalled how the condition first appeared in her late teens, which led her to dive deep into skincare and learn about different medicated treatments.
"When I was 19, I started developing the rash, and I learned about a lot of medicated products. I learned a lot about just products in general from my dermatologist at the time."
Since then, she’s tested various treatments and lifestyle changes to keep flare-ups under control. One of the biggest adjustments? Cutting out dairy.
"It's funny how eczema makes you feel," she admitted. "Two years ago, I had another flare-up, and I cut out dairy. Boy, it was hard. Bye-bye cappuccinos, black coffee all the way."
But she’s noticed an improvement in her skin over the years, something she credits to healthier habits—especially since becoming a mom to daughter Nina, 7, and son Thomas, 4, with husband Thomas Sadoski.
"I've noticed it's a little better after kids. I eat better than I ever have," she shared. "And the celery juice must be doing something, right?"
While she’s learned plenty of skincare tricks over the years, Seyfried isn’t one to obsess over perfection. In the video, she demonstrated her makeup routine, embracing her skin’s natural texture.
"The rash is screaming," she joked while washing her face. "But that's OK, because I’m gonna cover it."
After applying medicated cream, toner, and concealer, she kept it simple, reassuring fans that covering up every blemish isn’t the goal.
"You see how easy that was? I don’t need to get rid of all the redness. I wouldn’t even know how to try."
And while she loves a glam moment, Seyfried made it clear this routine is all about feeling good in her skin.
"But this is not a red carpet look. This is me doing my makeup to look pretty and clean."
