Imtiaz Ali is sharing his unfiltered thoughts on Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan-led Love Aaj Kal, addressing the debacle surrounding the film.
During an exclusive interview with Komal Nahta on the Game Changers YouTube channel, the filmmaker acknowledged his creative missteps in the 2020 release.
Reflecting on the fiasco of the film, the Jab We Met director highlighted, “I could have done 2–3 things differently. I tried to put too much into it, and that’s why it became heavy.
“The ease of the film was compromised. It became thick, people didn’t understand what happened. It seemed like this didn’t come from the heart. Secondly, I feel the film lacked freshness.”
Imtiaz candidly acknowledged that he had failed to effectively convey his ideas in the film.
While acknowledging public criticism of Sara's performance, he clarified that casting wasn't the issue. Rather, he took responsibility for the shortcomings.
The Rockstar director further added, “I had that reason, but I wasn’t able to express that. At least, it didn’t get expressed in the publicity of the film.”
On professional front, Imtiaz is gearing up for his upcoming romantic drama, starring Aditi Rao Hydari and Laila Majnu fame Avinash Tiwary, slated to release by summer 2025.
