Amy Poehler shares fond memories from ‘SNL 50’: ‘really cool’
Amy Poehler reflects on celebrating ‘SNL 50’ with Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson
Amy Poehler recalled enjoying star-studded SNL 50 event alongside Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson.
In a recent podcast episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, the Saturday Night Live alum shared one of the major highlights of the weekend celebrating the show's 50th anniversary in February.
"My fun name drop of that weekend was there were so many people that people had to share dressing rooms," said Poehler, who starred in the late-night sketch series from 2001 to 2008.
"So, I was sharing my dressing room with Meryl Streep. Just like a fan. I took a picture of the door that said my name and Meryl Streep and it was really cool," she added.
Poehler further revealed that she was amazed by Streep’s dedication towards her debut role on the special. "She was getting ready for her sketch and really rehearsing it."
She went on to say, "and I remember thinking, 'I never rehearsed as hard as Meryl Streep is in this one moment.' I was like, 'Don't overthink it! Just be loud!'"
In addition to sharing a dressing room with Streep, Poehler was lucky enough to sit next to Jack Nicholson in the audience during the special.
"It was a night of famous alumni and people. I sat down and turned to my left and it was Jack Nicholson," Poehler said on the podcast. "I was like, 'Of course. My old friend, my dear friend Jack Nicholson.'"
O’Brien responded by saying that in such moments, he just tries to act natural since it makes sense for all the big stars to be there. "I just say, 'Of course Jack Nicholson is here. Of course my comedy heroes are here.'"
Poehler agreed, saying, "I mean, you have to fake it!"
Poehler also starred in two SNL50 sketches as she also reprised her Bronx Beat sketch.
