Mary J. Blight reflects on memorable performance with Taylor Swift

Mary J. Blight recalled a nostalgic moment she shared with Taylor Swift at The 1989 World Tour stage.

In an interview with the People Magazine, Blige opened up about the time the Blank Space hitmaker invited her to perform as a guest during her first pop album tour.

"Just to let you know how it happened, Taylor called me," Blige said. "She was like 'I want you [to come on tour.] I was shocked. I was like, 'Oh, Taylor Swift likes Mary J. Blige?!'"

The Just Fine crooner gushed about Swift’s gentle personality, as she explained, "When I went to do the [songs] with her, I thought she was a really down-to-earth person. I mean, so nice, so sweet. And I think what connects is exactly that."

The reflection came after a video from their 2015 performance resurfaced earlier this month, marking a decade since they performed Blige’s hit song, Family Affair and Doubt.

Following the years after that tour, Swift has risen to become one most iconic popstars of all time, with the help of her dedicated fanbase. Blige has also been privileged to experience such support over her three-decade career.

"I think her ability to express herself through her songs and what she's dealing with is what is our connection," Blige said of the 14-time Grammy winner’s connection to fans. "Because I do the same thing."

Blige is currently gearing up for her upcoming For My Fans Tour, kicking off on Thursday, January 30th.

Meanwhile, Swift appeared at the Kansas City Chiefs against Buffalo Bills game on January 26th, to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The game ended with Kansas City securing it’s spot in the Super Bowl.
