Brad Pitt has spilled more details on the after effects of Angelina Jolie’s winery sale amid the couple’s divorce.
Although Jolie and Pitt have finalized their long-running divorce, their legal battles continue, with the Château Miraval winery dispute at the center of the drama.
According to a source close to Pitt, Jolie’s 2021 decision to sell her share of Château Miraval was a deliberate attempt to “punish” her ex-husband.
“Brad built an extraordinary, increasingly valuable business, and she chose to deliberately disregard their agreement,” the insider told PEOPLE.
Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit alleged that Jolie sold her 50 percent stake in the French estate to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of Stoli Group, without his approval — a move he claims violated their mutual understanding.
The source further stated, “Instead of completing negotiations for him to buy her out, she sold to a total stranger not aligned with the company’s vision, taking the money for herself and punishing him.”
Jolie has denied the existence of any such agreement, maintaining in her countersuit that the couple did not have “a secret, unwritten, unspoken contract” requiring mutual consent before selling their shares.
She has also accused Pitt of waging a “vindictive war” against her through his legal actions.
The Château Miraval case took a significant turn in November 2023 when Jolie’s motions to dismiss Pitt’s lawsuit were rejected, with the court finding potential proof of a written agreement between the former couple.
A source close to Pitt called the ruling a win that “demonstrates the legitimacy of his claims.”
Jolie’s actions around the sale have reportedly caused “tremendous collateral damage to those in and around the family,” according to another insider close to Pitt.
Meanwhile, a source from Jolie’s camp stated that she hopes Pitt “can now move on,” adding that the ongoing lawsuit prevents the family from achieving peace and healing.
Pitt and Jolie, who share six children, separated in 2016 after 12 years together. While their divorce is settled, the Château Miraval battle highlights how their legal and personal disputes remain far from resolved.
