Director Jeff Fowler had no second thoughts before casting Keanu Reeves for the role of Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Keanu’s performance in John Wick impressed Jeff, which is how the director knew that the former is fit for the role.
The 46-year-old filmmaker thought that Reeves’ character in Chad Stahelski’s directorial had an edginess which was a requirement for the Sega antagonist.
In conversation with SFX, Fowler, 46, stated: I’d be lying if I didn’t say there was just an obvious corollary between his performance in the ‘John Wick’ films and the vibe we’re trying to channel for Shadow.”
“Because Shadow, from a tonal standpoint, is such an anti-hero he’s got a little edginess to him.”
“It felt like the perfect fit for Keanu. He gave such a great performance.”
According to the Sonic director, the Matrix actor worked extremely hard for the role.
“He knew what we were after and was excited about playing the character and coming into our world”, added Jeff.
Sonic 3 stars Jim Carrey in a pivotal role. The action adventure also features the voices of Idris Elba, Ben Schwartz and Keanu.
