Princess Kate has issued extraordinary statement on her cancer battle amid Christmas celebrations.

The Princess of Wales shared new details about her difficult journey during her latest outing with Prince William and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Speaking to those who has come to watch the royal family at Sandringham, the 42-year-old Kate offered an insight into her battle against the chronic disease.

Prince William's wife, who announced her cancer diagnosed in March, has successfully completed her chemotherapy treatment. She, according to her September video message, is now focusing to remain cancer free while gradually returning to the public life.

During her festive outing on December 25, Princess Kate gave fresh update on her health, explaining how she was "hugely grateful" for the hard work of healthcare workers in the field.

Kate said: "The amount of people who have written this year is extraordinary and I think cancer just really does resonate with so many families."

She paid huge tribute to those who helped her return to life during her difficult time.

"People like you are doing all the hard work out there. I'm hugely grateful." Kate reflected on her difficult journey as she met well-wishers on the walk to church on Christmas Day with the royals at Sandringham.

Stopping to speak with members of the crowd after the service at St Mary Magdalene church, one woman who had worked for Macmillan Cancer Support told Kate that she is an "inspiration to all patients".

Another woman told Kate: "We're all behind you, never forget that," to which the royal replied, "Thank you very much, [that's] so kind, nice to meet you."

During one heartwarming moment, Kate shared a hug with a fellow cancer patient, 73-year-old Karen Maclean from North Lincolnshire, who said she had had "20 years of cancer."
