Travis Kelce gave a shout out to Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker for getting the team through the penalty after record-breaking touchdown in last game.
The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end scored a penalty after his touchdown celebration on Wednesday, December 25th after he slammed the football through the goalpost as a tribute to Tony Gonzalez, whose record he had just broke.
Kelce achieved the record of the most touchdown receptions in all time after surpassing Gonzalez.
However, because of the celebratory kick, Butker was forced to kick a 48-yard extra point, instead of the usual 33-yard attempt, as a penalty.
When the game ended, the NFL star told the reporters that he knew Butker would have his back so he was not concerned about the consequences.
“I knew the score,” he said. “I knew my guy Harrison had my back on the field goal.”
Taylor Swift’s beau’s fourth quarter touchdown and Butker’s extra point brought the Chiefs up 29-10 on the Pittsburgh Steelers, which ended up being the final score.
The latest victory on Christmas match guaranteed Kansas City the No. 1 seed in the AFC, ensuring a first-round bye in the playoffs.
In his winning speech, Kelce honoured Gonzalez who spent the first 12 seasons of his brilliant NFL career with the Chiefs.
“It’s showing Tony some love and just a big tribute to who he’s been, not only in this organization, but who he’s been for football. We know how iconic it was that he would dunk the ball through the goalpost all the time,” said the football star.
“I gave it my best effort. I don’t know if I did it quite like him. I gave it a run,” he added with a smile.
