Cameron Diaz co-star Ed Burns reveals truth about ‘The Holiday’ punch scene

Cameron Diaz's The Holiday co-star, Ed Burns, recently shared what went behind the famous punch.

Ed Burns, who has played many roles throughout his 30-year-old career, stands out during the Christmas season as Ethan, the not-so-charming boyfriend of Amanda, in The Holiday.

In the movie, his character admits to cheating on Amanda after accusing her being emotionally unavailable, to which Diaz, in return strikes his face.

“People always ask me, 'Did she really punch you?" he said while discussing the famous punch scene from the movie to People Magazine, “She didn't. It was a bit of movie magic."

Marvelling over film popularity during this time of the year, he admitted to have the answer prepared as “[he] always know when it's getting close to Christmas because people will start saying, 'Hey, The Holiday!"

The festive rom-com follows the story of two women, Amanda (Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet), as they look for an escape from their respective heartbreaks.

In a new location, Amanda falls for Graham (Jude Law) and Iris is enamoured by Miles (Jack Black).

Burns recently wrote and directed Millers in Marriage, a witty dramedy about three siblings in their early 50s going through family and marital changes.

He said the dialogue between the characters is based on real conversations his wife, Christy Turlington had with other couple friends.

However, The Holiday was released on December 6th, 2024.
