Legendary actor Al Pacino paid tribute to his long-time collaborator and director Francis Ford Coppola at star-studded event, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The 84-year-old praised Francis for his extraordinary contributions to cinema. recognizing his achievements in film.
Pacino, who famously portrayed Michael Corleone in Coppola’s groundbreaking, The Godfather trilogy, took the stage to deliver an emotional speech honoring the director who shaped his career and influenced generations of filmmakers.
Addressing the audience, Pacino remarked: "Francis, he’s a visionary, a master of storytelling who understands the soul of the human experience and brings that to life on the big screen."
While reminiscing the memories of The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II, he shared: "Francis trusted me when no one else did. He gave me the space to explore Michael Corleone in ways that felt truthful, and in turn, he changed the trajectory of my life"
"He has taught me more than any director I’ve ever worked with. And more than that, he’s my friend."
As soon as Pacino concluded with his sweet words, Francis took the the stage to accept the honour and poured his gratitude, saying: "I never could have imagined, when we began making The Godfather, that it would become what it is today."
During the conversation, Francis Ford Coppola acknowledged the ever lasting impact of his films and the incredible team he worked with, including Pacino.
