Britney Spears is setting the record straight on her rumoured move to Mexico.
A week after first announcing the news, the Princess of Pop took to Instagram on Saturday, December 14, addressing “negativity” surrounding her decision to spend time in the country, which she described as “sacred.”
“Not sure why I’m explaining myself,” Britney wrote, “but there’s a little negativity with me mentioning my move to Mexico! It’s a gift from God that I will never take for granted!” She went on to share her plans to showcase her home there, adding, “This place has been sort of sacred to me, and I didn’t want to share all aspects of possibilities.”
The Oops!... I Did It Again singer also reflected on healing and moving forward while admitting that fear of being hurt again sometimes complicates her journey.
“It will grow and expand if I follow my heart,” she wrote. “But sometimes it’s complicated to even try to move forward if you think you might get hurt again.”
Her comments follow a recent video where Britney revealed she was seeking refuge in Mexico to escape relentless paparazzi harassment. “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me,” she shared, adding that photographers often portray her unfairly.
Despite the speculation, a source told The Hollywood Reporter that Britney has not officially relocated. For now, she appears focused on balancing her time between Mexico and the U.S. while embracing peace and self-care.
