Macaulay Culkin revealed he considered buying the Home Alone dream house but holded back for personal reasons.
The New York Times reported that during his ongoing tour, A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin, the 44-year-old actor shared with the Illinois' Rosemont Theater crowd why he chose not to buy the famed property.
Notably, Winnetka, III., home where the film was shot, went on the market in May. "I had half a mind to buy it — just for giggles," he recalled, adding that he planned to make it a "movie fun house."
Revealing his reason for withholding the purchase, Culkin said, "I got kids," referencing his two sons, whom he welcomed with his partner, actress Brenda Song. "I'm busy, man."
Although the former child star didn’t buy his childhood home or the coveted piece of cinematic history, he embarked on a multi-city tour to honour the film, which launched him into stardom.
The Chris Columbus–directed film was a blockbuster hit that grossed $476.7 million worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film in 1990.
So, as the festive season has kicked off, Culkin is keeping the movie’s legacy alive with his new tour, which includes a screening of the film followed by a Q&A with the Home Alone star.
