Matthew Gray Gubler has excited fans by making his return in the beloved series Criminal Minds after saying goodbye in 2020.
The 44-year-old actor has finally decided to get back into the series for the 18th season.
Gubler, who famously played the character of Spencer Reid in the series from 2005 to 2020, will appear in the new season albeit for a little while, as per a TVLine report.
The outlet also confirmed that the (500) Days of Summer star just finished filming for the upcoming season earlier this week.
This comes after Gubler’s character Reid and special agent Matt Simmons, played by Daniel Henney, had been away on an assignment, as they were absent from the storyline.
“It’s a little bit of a mystery what Reid and Simmons are up to,” showrunner Erica Messer told the outlet ahead of Evolution‘s premiere. “But they’re certainly not forgotten. Dr. Reid’s and I believe Matt Simmons’ desks are still there, still have stuff on it. [Spencer and Matt] are not gone gone.”
Saying goodbye to the series in 2020, Gubler shared a heartfelt goodbye on Instagram that featured a photo of his most-cherished props.
“I’ve carried these 3 props with me almost every day for the last 15 years. After tonight I’ll just carry them in my heart where I will forever keep memories of the best crew, the best cast, and the best fands (fans/friends) a fictional crimefighter could ever have,” he penned in the caption.
