Imtiaz Ali is spilling beans on Shah Rukh Khan's influence on his 2017 romantic/ comedy Jab Harry Met Sejal.
The filmmaker, who is known for his spectacular works in Jab We Met and Rockstar, discussed how the King actor's stardom influenced his creative vision for the project.
During an exclusive interview with GQ India, Ali denied all such claims about the actor's influence on the film.
He told the publication, “Shah Rukh never imposed himself on the film. But he is a huge star with an enormous fan base. He has a lot of expectations to fulfil and I wasn’t writing to serve that. I did not consider the scale of his stardom."
The director said the team could have made some significant changes, leaving a lasting impression on viewers' minds.
In addition, Imtiaz said the film could have benefited from a detailed overview of the characters, offering a deeper insight into their cultures and traditions.
The Tamasha director previously opened up to Mid-Day about the film's poor performance at the Box office.
He emphasised that if a film fails to deliver at the box office, it doesn't necessarily mean that everything about it was wrong.
In the film, Shah Rukh portrayed the role of Harinder Singh Nehra, Anushka Sharma played Sejal Parikh, a Gujarati woman.
