Prince Andrew seemingly rushed for damage control after reports of major security breach surfaced.
The Duke of York, who was already embroiled in a feud with his brother over the Royal Lodge, was accused of having close ties with a Chinese spy.
Following the news, Andrew issued a statement in which he stated that he “ceased all contact with the individual after concerns were raised” on the advice of “His Majesty’s Government”.
“The Duke met the individual through official channels with nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed,” the statement continued. “He is unable to comment further on matters relating to national security.”
Although, Andrew’s statement did not specify when he ceased contact with the man nor the duration of their communications.
The statement came after King Charles was briefed about the security breach by British intelligence courtesy of his shamed brother, according to The Mirror.
According to reports, a man, known as H6, was invited to the royal's birthday party in 2020, and was told by Andrew's aide Dominic Hampshire that he could act on the duke's behalf when dealing with potential investors in China, a specialist tribunal heard in July this year.
H6 was previously barred from entering the country in 2023 over national security fears.
A report revealed that the individual after he had lost his appeal this week against being barred from the UK as a threat to national security.
“The King has been briefed about this situation regarding the suspected Chinese spy and is very aware of what has been and what is being done about it,” a royal source told the outlet.
