Gypsy Rose Blanchard worried about falling back into addiction after her release from prison last December.

During an exclusive chat with People about her newly released memoir, My Time to Stand, she expressed concerns regarding her past fixation on drugs.

"I was concerned about relapsing before I got out of prison because that thought did cross my mind."

Her memoir reveals how she had abused opioids for years, sneaking her mother Dee Dee’s pain medications to cope with the pain of her upbringing.

"Her emotions were a whip that snapped against my self-worth. I found solace and escape in drugs, especially after we began fighting a lot," she wrote in her book.

"I remember the first time I sought out the painkillers for no pain at all, and it was after Mama and I were yelling at each other for what seemed like over an hour,” she continued.

This led the 33-year-old onto the path of drugs, which she confessed to struggle with the most when her ex boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, took her mother’s life upon her request.

Even in prison, she was unable to escape her addiction to opioids, but it was during her time there that she finally found sobriety.
