Khloe Kardashian opens up about battling with trust issues in therapy
Khloe Kardashian finds it hard to trust a therapist after her last one overstepped a boundary
Khloe Kardashian dealt with a huge setback in therapy at the time she was going through her divorce with Lamar Odom.
The 40-year-old shared that her former therapist released her private information on a tabloid.
“I remember I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid,” she told Bustle in an interview published on Tuesday, December 3rd.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star added, “And I knew that my therapist disclosed this information to a tabloid because there’s no way this could have gotten out there.”
The incident put the reality TV star off of therapy for a decade and she found her solace at the gym.
“I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore. And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”
The perfume mogul called the doctor-patient boundary breach “very jarring and sort of unbelievable” but she knew “there’s not a chance in the world that it came from anywhere else.”
Khloe refused to seek help for mental health for years afterwards and only changed her mind when elder sister Kim Kardashian convinced her.
“I started when I was 39,” the mom of three said, adding that her new doctor is “really lovely.”
“I really like her. It’s actually Kim’s therapist,” she shared. “Kim was really adamant. I was like, ‘I’ll do this for you.’ I dragged my feet, and then I was like, ‘Wow, OK, this is good. I needed this.’”
