Queen Camilla has shared that she has been battling pneumonia following a recent overseas trip and is now dealing with post-viral fatigue.
As a result, the 77-year-old monarch has had to step back from some of her royal duties, including missing the outdoor elements of the Qatari state visit.
Doctors have advised her to take extra time to recover, and she was notably absent from Tuesday’s ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade.
However, the Queen did make a brief appearance later at Buckingham Palace’s Grand Entrance, where she was seen offering a warm smile as she arrived by car, despite her ongoing recovery.
Inside Buckingham Palace’s Grand Hall, Camilla patiently awaited the Emir of Qatar and his wife during the state visit.
The Queen had contracted a chest infection following a long-haul trip to Australia and Samoa, which led to the cancellation of several engagements, including the Royal Variety Performance, the Gladiator II premiere, and the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph.
Though her pneumonia was viral rather than bacterial and did not require hospitalisation, the Queen is still dealing with significant post-viral fatigue.
Sources close to the Palace confirm that while she no longer has pneumonia, she continues to battle bouts of extreme tiredness as she recovers.
