Sonam Kapoor finds inspiration in Kajol's 'empowering' outlook

Sonam Kapoor reveals an unexpected connection to Kajol as she recalls being ‘traumatized’ by trolling over facial hair.

During an exclusive heart-to-heart conversation at Barkha Dutt’s We The Women summit, the Disney Khoobsurat actress took a moment to reflect on her past struggles.

Sonam didn’t hesitate to mention how she dealt with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), sharing its impact on her teenage years as she discussed weight gain, acne, and facial hair.

The Blind actress said it was upsetting when people drew parallels between her and father Anil Kapoor, criticising her appearance because of her ‘unwanted’ facial hair.

She recalled, "I had facial hair. And you break out in acne. I had people tell me, ‘Oh, she’s Anil Kapoor’s daughter.’ You know, weird trolling things.”

The 39-year-old actress explained how these comments took a toll on her mental health, leaving a lasting impression on her mind.

Amidst all the drama surrounding her skin problems, Sonam recalled how her mother introduced her to the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai star’s old pictures, the one with her iconic unibrow.

She went on to add, "I remember my mom showing me Kajol’s picture and said, ‘Look at her! She is the biggest heroine right now.'"

The actress talked about finally discovering the importance of being true to oneself as she set an example for others with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya.
