Prince William marked an important step for women just a day after he attended the glitzy Buckingham Palace event without Kate Middleton.
The heir to the throne stepped out in Wales on Wednesday for a solo engagement in Newport, Wales, to promote his venture, Homewards, which aims to end homelessness in the UK.
Kensington Palace released highlights from the visit with an important message targeted at a ‘hidden’ problem.
“Today we are bringing together local partners who are pledging their support to help prevent women’s homelessness in Newport,” the message read alongside a carousel of photos from the engagement.
“Women are often more susceptible to experiencing ‘hidden homelessness’ compared to men, as they are less likely to rough sleep due to safety fears, resulting in sofa surfing, or sleeping on public transport,” the caption continued.
“Organisations like @thenelsontrust are working with @homewardsuk to deliver trauma-informed support for women across the city.”
Newport is one of the six locations in the UK where William’s programme is focussed on. The project has identified unhoused women as a key priority in Newport, as reports suggest a rise in women’s homelessness.
During the visit, William also met local women who have gone through homelessness and privately spoke to some about their experiences.
Meanwhile, Kate was notably absent from the visit which would have benefitted from her visit as it had been a women-focussed engagement.
The visit also comes after the release of an investigative documentary,The King, the Prince and their Secret Millions, which exposed the secret millions of King Charles and William's private estates.
The Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall have been accused of having substandard living conditions and abysmal energy efficiency in the rental homes, which brought massive criticism for the King and his heir.
