John Wick makers were planning to cast Bruce Willis in the main role before Keanu Reeves.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, producer and co-director, David Lietch spoke exclusively about the franchise as the first film will be marking its ten years in 2024.
David unveiled that him and director Chad Stahelski received the script for the 2014 movie from former’s wife, Kelly McCormick, who was their manager at the time.
The producer, during the chat, revealed: “That was the first time we read it, and I think Bruce Willis might’ve been attached at that time.”
The Bullet Train director opened that they couldn’t get Willis on-board which is why they turned to their Matrix colleague, Reeves for John Wick.
He recalled: “We went back to Keanu and said, Hey, man, it’s a little small for us, but what do you think about us doing the whole thing?"
“And he was like, ‘Yes, please. Let’s do it. How do we make that happen?”
John Wick starring Keanu Reeves was released in 2014. The film also featured Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne and others.
The plot revolved around a retired hitman, who is forced to adopt his old ways after some Russian gangster group steals his car and kills his puppy gifted to him by his late wife.
