Monica Barbaro has received her fair share of strange, unsolicited suggestions over the years.
According to Entertainment Weekly, during a panel discussion at the Savannah Film Festival, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the actress who plays Lt. Natasha "Phoenix" Trace in Top Gun: Maverick shared one bizarre advice she got while on the set of her first commercial shoot.
"I remembered this the other day, the weirdest advice I ever got was the very first commercial thing I ever shot," she recalled. "There was a woman doing my makeup, and she told me I had really long eyelashes, and I should probably trim them. I didn't take it like that. I mean, I was just like, 'Oh, okay.'"
The 34-year-old actress emphasised the importance of trusting your instincts and filtering out opinions that don’t feel right.
"In my mind, I was like, 'I’m not going to do that,'" she added. "And sometimes I just think it's like when you hear advice that you're just not sure of and you're like, I don't know, just trust that instinct. You could be told to do crazy s--- like cut all your eyelashes off."
Ignoring the odd suggestion, Barbaro is now looking forward to the release of her upcoming movie, A Complete Unknown, Bob Dylan's biopic where she plays folk singer Joan Baez.
