Barry Keoghan is making a shocking revelation about his childhood, admitting that it still ‘haunts’ him.
The Irish actor, who earned an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Martin McDonagh's 2023 film, The Banshees of Inisherin, opened up about his ‘challenging’ childhood during an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast.
On Tuesday, November 5, the Saltburn star reflected on his life as he recalled being misconstrued in the press for years.
He said, “I feel it’s been publicised in a pity story way. You know, ‘Oh God bless him, his mum passed away [from] heroin and touring foster homes,’ [I’ve] actually seen that on an article. I’m not giving out about any of that but that’s not what I’m looking for either.”
Giving a piece of advice to youngsters, he went on to add, “If anything, I speak about it to let younger kids know that no matter where you come from, you can always achieve what you put your mind to and not to give up and stay persistent on it.”
The actor, who previously dated Sabrina Carpenter, offered an inside glimpse into his relationship with his mother.
Instead of blaming her for all the hardship he endured as a child, Keoghan said her addiction had a lot to do with the area they resided in at the time.
In addition, The Batman actor said his past experience as a foster child, took a toll on his mental health.
He continued, “That kind of haunts me still, you don’t forget those things. You don’t forget waiting on the social worker steps and waiting for the new family… And you know, the car journeys there and they’re the things that haunt and I don’t blame her. It’s a sickness.”
On professional front, Keoghan is gearing up for the upcoming Peaky Blinders film as well as Andrea Arnold release Bird.
