Bethany Joy Lenz’s shocking confessions about ‘One Tree Hill’ in new memoir
Bethany Joy Lenz reveals her unpleasant relationship with ‘One Tree Hill’ creator
Bethany Joy Lenz has recently made shocking confessions about her relationship with One Tree Hill creator.
In her new memoir, Dinner for Vampires, Lenz wrote, “The show was marketed toward tween girls, and I was concerned that the big-sister role I was testing for — which eventually went to the lovely Jennie Garth — was a woman living with her boyfriend.”
“I didn’t want to normalise ‘living in sin’ for young girls,” remarked the 43-year-old.
Lenz revealed that the series creator used storylines to punish her whenever she pushed back against creative decisions.
“The more my personal beliefs and preferences interfered with the creator’s demands, the more he started writing things into the storylines that I assume were an attempt to humiliate or antagonise me,” stated in her new memoir.
Lenz mentioned, “Like making other characters call Haley ‘fat.’ Or having Haley ‘overreact’ to her high school boyfriend watching porn.”
The actress revealed that the porn storyline was a “big battle” between her and the One Tree Hill creator.
Lenz shared that the dialogue penned for her character was “degrading and doing a disservice to the young women who looked up to me”.
The actress tried to talk things over with creator Mark Schwahn, the script remained the same.
Lenz decided to rewrite the lines herself, adding, “It caused confusion and aggravation for the director, the other actors, the script supervisor, and the producers.”
“I felt awful. But I didn’t know what else to do,” she noted,
