Emma Roberts’ dad Eric Roberts is offering an inside glimpse into his relationship with daughter, describing it as the “toughest period” of his life.
The Dancing With the Stars contestant, who previously offered an apology to sister Julia Roberts for taking the step in their years-long estrangement, shared his thoughts on his family dynamics on Tuesday, October 22 during an episode of the Inside of You podcast.
He explained, “Probably the loss of relationship with my daughter. There’s not a pain, there’s a sadness for the, most likely, misunderstandings [that] I’ll have forever. Because we’re human.”
The Pope of Greenwich Village star reflected on his adulthood, given that he lost the custody of his daughter amid his battle with addiction.
Eric, who welcomed his daughter with former Kelly Cunningham in 1991, went on to share his stance on his ‘sadness’ over his estranged relationship with Emma, he said, “I started accepting that about myself with the birth of my grandchildren.”
Drawing similarities between his oldest granddaughter, who ‘looks like Emma,’ he admitted, “And so it reminds me of what I didn't have.”
Eric didn’t hesitate from issuing a public apology to Julia in his memoir Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far.
This came after he took credit for his family’s Hollywood success in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair in 2018.
He wrote in the book, “I hope Julia will accept this public apology.”
