Andrew Garfield got to spend his late mother’s final days by her side, all thanks to Jessica Chastain.
In a recent interview with People magazine, the 41-year-old actor reflected on filming The Eyes of Tammy Faye alongside Chastain, 47, when he learned of his mother’s deteriorating condition in 2019.That’s when his co-star, Chastain and the rest of the cast and crew came through and “rearranged the schedule” of the film “last minute” to allow him to spend some precious time with his mother, Lynn Garfield, before she passed away from pancreatic cancer.
“[They] put filming on hold [in North Carolina] for a few days so that I could go back [to England] and be with my mom for 10 days,” Garfield told the outlet.
His Tammy Faye co-star Vincent D'Onofrio, who had recently himself experienced losing a loved one, urged Garfield to go, insisting, "You got to go."
Garfield cherished his time with Chastain, as they shared meaningful conversations on set. “I’m really very grateful for that time with her, because it was the time when my mum was really sick,” he said.
After Lynn's passing at 69, Garfield called his mother “the purest angel.” Reflecting on their final days together, he told Variety in 2021, “We left nothing unsaid… Those last two weeks I got to be with her were probably the most profound two weeks of my life.”
