Michael Keaton wanted to take a trip down memory lane during his fourth time hosting Saturday Night Live, but Beetlejuice antics prevented him from doing so.
Mikey Day and Andy Samberg crashed Keaton’s opening monologue for SNL 50, forcing the Beetlejuice star to share the stage with them as they channeled his iconic character with untamed green hair, a pinstripe suit, and ghastly makeup.
"With Halloween coming up, I know I’m going to see a lot of little kids out there dressed as Beetlejuice, which is adorable," the Oscar nominee said, promoting the Beetlejuice sequel released on September 6. "And I’m also going to see a lot of grown men dressed as Beetlejuice too, usually guys in their 40s, which is less adorable."
Following his light-hearted quip, Day, 44, entered the scene, impersonating the demon’s signature raspy voice and urging Keaton to say his catchphrase, "It’s showtime."
The Batman actor dodged it, saying, "To be honest, I don’t even remember how I said it." Just then, Samberg, 46, popped up, delivering his best Beetlejuice impression in a hoarse voice.
The chaotic scene on stage was further heightened as the camera panned to Sarah Sherman in the audience, dressed in a black-and-white striped outfit.
Just when the legendary actor seemed to reach his limit with the Beetlejuice madness, Sherman, 31, explained, "Oh no, this is just how I dress," before imitating Beetlejuice for good measure.
Finally giving in to the chaotic vibe, Keaton, 73, introduced the night’s show with Beetlejuice's voice.
