Saturday Night Live original cast member Dan Aykroyd has endorsed the new film Saturday Night as a true depiction of the events surrounding the iconic show’s first broadcast.
After watching the Jason Reitman-directed film, which premiered on October 11 to honour the 49th anniversary of SNL's first broadcast, Aykroyd gave rave reviews.
Saturday Night chronicled the behind-the-scenes hustle and chaos that unfolded in the 90 minutes before the inaugural SNL broadcast in 1975.
"Cracking a head to applaud Jason Reitman's triumphant SNL film. Wow! What a propulsive, engaging, funny, beautifully cast and acted, suspenseful, adventurous, music-filled ride," Aykroyd described.
"A perfect window into the creative process at its highest level," he continued. "Pretty accurate too. I was there that night and got to relive it wonderfully again."
"Congratulations to Gil Kenan [co-writer], Jason, and producer Jason Blumenfeld. Don’t miss it, whether you know the show or not. It is a stand-alone masterpiece and a sure-fire candidate for Best Picture," the og SNL cast member added.
Formerly titled SNL 1975, the film showcases the talented troupe of young comedians and writers who changed television forever.
