Janhvi Kapoor redefined her relationship with her ‘Peddamma’ Rekha as she recalled her mother’s ‘warm’ bond with the veteran actress.
During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, the Dhadak star confessed her admiration for Rekha, revealing a heartwarming connection between her late mother Sridevi and the Silsila actress.
Reflecting on her mother’s journey into showbiz, Janhvi said, "When mom first joined Hindi movies and was feeling so lost, Peddamma really took her under her wing, and they were friends for a very long time."
In addition to her claim, the 27-year-old revealed that her mother lost contact with Rekha following a brief hiatus to focus on family.
Recounting an instance from her first meeting with the 70-year-old, the actress, who won Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut in Dhadak, said, "I must have been around 14 when Rekha Ji came home for lunch, and I greeted her, and she said you must call me Peddamma. In Telugu, it means badi amma."
The Ulajh alum also admitted to asking for Rekha’s approval after her mother’s sudden demise as she went on to add, "Since mom isn't around now, I feel Peddamma's approval is important. Because artistically, both mom and she are similar. In a manner of speaking, after mom, I look to Peddamma for validation. What she thinks about me and my work means a lot to me."
On professional front, Janhvi last appeared in the Telugu film Devara: Part 1, and is currently gearing up for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, co-starring Varun Dhawan.
