Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently behind bars in New York Detention centre, appeared in court on Thursday, October 10th, in a status conference held in Manhattan.
The judge presiding over Diddy’s case, Arun Subramanian, announced that the trial is scheduled to begin next spring on May 5.
The prosecution shared in the conference that they expect the government's case to take three weeks to pan out, while Diddy's defence lawyers estimated requiring one week to argue the disgraced music mogul’s defence.
However, the court procession also noted that the investigation is currently open and hinted at the possibility of a superseding indictment which could extend the trial.
During the conference in Manhattan, the accused rapper’s family was also in attendance, when the defence and prosecution teams discussed the concerns regarding the evidence and trial procedures of the case.
Diddy's mother, Janice Combs, who showed support for her son, arrived almost an hour before his court appearance, while his children, twin daughters, Jessie and D’Lila, daughter Chance and sons Christian, Justin, and Quincy were also present in the courtroom.
Diddy arrived wearing a long-sleeve brown prison shirt and pants, and although he was not handcuffed, his feet were chained.
The rapper gave a relaxed smile as he glanced around the room, and laughed while he waited for the judge to enter.
When the hearing proceeded, Diddy turned around to face his family and waved to them. He blew kisses, and bowed, as his daughters blew kisses back.
This comes after Diddy’s legal team filed for bail for the third time on Tuesday, October 8th, after being denied twice.
For the unversed, the 54-year-old was arrested on September 16th on the charges of sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and engagement in prostitution.
Reportedly, upon being found guilty, he would be facing a minimum of 15 years in prison or maximum, a sentence of life in prison.
