Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na actor Imran Khan has opened up about dealing with anxiety amid World Mental Health Day.
Khan revealed that he witnessed signs of anxiety and depression in his 20s. The actor went on to say that his family did not condemn mental health issues which is why he stepped out of his house to seek help for himself.
According to the Katti Batti actor, he has been taking therapy session for almost eight years now and it had greatly helped him.
Imran differentiated how today’s generation takes mental health seriously today however, this was not the situation a decade ago. According to him, there was no 'acceptance' back in the time as it is today.
The 41-year-old actor said: "People, in general, didn't have an attitude of acceptance. Today's generation has embraced the idea of mental health care. Their sympathy is mind-blowing."
During a new interview with Hindustan Times, Khan was asked he feels happy now after his 8-year-long journey of anxiety and depression. He replied: “Happiness is a strange word because you cannot always be happy. Rather, the question is. Do you feel like getting out of bed in the morning and doing stuff? If not, you are in a state of actual collapse."
He continued: saying: “In that way, I am in a place that is healthier. Since my early 20s, I had not been in a healthy space, emotionally or psychologically."
Imran, 41, also mentioned that having an awareness about mental health is very important. He gave credit to his mother, who is a practicing psychoanalyst. According to him, it is because of her, he decided to go for therapy session.
On the professional front, Imran Khan is soon going to make his comeback to Bollywood. He last appeared in film Katti Batti with Kangana Ranuat 2015.
