Chris Pine left Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush dumbfounded with his revelations about his role in The Princess Diaries 3.
During his appearance on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Pine, who made his debut in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement as Nicholas Deveraux, a love interest for Anne Hathaway’s character Mia Thermopolis, told the hosts he is not sure whether he will return for the third instalment.
"I don’t know anything," he simply responded to the question posed by the hosts of the fourth hour of NBC’s Today about his potential return to reprise the key role.
The co-hosts seemed incredulous, and Kotb reconfirmed, "You don’t know anything?" adding, "You are The Princess Diaries."
Bush echoed her co-host, saying, "You have a major role!" After the hosting duo weighed in, noting that a third addition in the Princess Diaries universe without the Star Trek alum wouldn’t be possible, he exclaimed, "Call Disney! Call Bob Iger!"
The daytime co-hosts were persistent in trying to get an answer, but the Wonder Woman actor reassured them that he really didn’t seem to have any idea about his involvement in the upcoming movie.
"Honestly, I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s fantastic," Pine, 44, said of his casting, which is not yet confirmed, in the threequel, which is set to be directed by Adele Lim.
