King Charles will be dropping out of a major event of the year due to his ongoing cancer treatment.

The monarch, who has been a life-long advocate of protecting the environment, will not be attending the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, after making a powerful speech at last year’s conference.

Meanwhile, the King and his wife, Queen Camilla, are set to embark on their State Visit to Australia and Samoa in the next week. According to sources, Charles’ medical team has allowed him to “pause” his cancer treatment for 11 days while he is on tour.

Although, he will be accompanied by a doctor, as is customary for the head of state.

The tour will the first visit to these countries after Charles ascended to the throne and the first international travel following his cancer diagnosis.

Royal insiders cited by The Mirror revealed that UK government had elected not to request King Charles presence at the annual event.

“The King will not be going to COP. He has not been asked by the government to attend the event and he is also mindful of his own commitments following the upcoming autumn tour,” the source told the outlet.

This year’s COP event is set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan. While Charles will not be visiting the country, he did extend a warm welcome to the president-designate of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, who is also the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at his Clarence House residence in London back in July.
