Martin Scorsese has recently confirmed he’s not going to retire and plans to direct multiple movies at 81.
The Academy Award winner, who was accompanied by his daughter Francesca Scorsese, received lifetime achievement award from country’s Stella della Mole Museum on October 7.
Speaking to the reporters at a press conference, Martin clarified, “I’m not saying goodbye to cinema at all,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
“I still have more films to make, and I hope God gives me the strength to make them,” stated the legendary movie-maker.
Martin’s comments came two weeks after Variety reported last month that the director had postponed his upcoming two movies, including a Frank Sinatra biopic and a movie about Jesus Christ, which he said to film both back-to-back in 2024.
However, the Killers of the Flower Moon director opened up that he was taking a hiatus from narrative movies to work on a non-project in Italy.
“I’m filming between Ustica and Taormina. It’s a documentary about marine archaeology,” he disclosed, according to THR.
The outlet reported that the movie is inspired by the work of the underwater archaeologist Lisa Briggs and her research project Shipwreck of Sicily.
Moreover, it is yet to be seen when Martin would return to filming The Life of Jesus and Sinatra biopic.
Earlier in September, Variety reported that Sinatra’s daughter, who held control over Frank’s estate, had not granted approval to the biopic up until now.
Meanwhile, Martin still has other projects, including a TV adaptation of his 1991 remake of Cape Fear, which he will executive produce with Steven Spielberg.
