Sophie Turner opens up about challenges of single motherhood
Sophie Turner says playing Joan 'changed me' and gave strength
Sophie Turner has opened up about the challenges of being a single mother following her divorce from Joe Jonas.
The Game of Thrones star shared her candid thoughts in a recent interview ahead of the premiere of her new six-part crime series Joan, airing Sunday night.
In the show, she takes on the role of real-life figure Joan "The Godmother" Hannington.
Turner and her estranged husband, Joe Jonas, 35, finalized their year-long divorce on September 11, after months of intense legal battles, particularly over custody arrangements for their two daughters, Willa and Delphine.
The divorce settlement marks the end of a drawn-out and highly publicized separation.
Despite the challenges, Turner delighted fans last week when she went Instagram official with her new boyfriend, aristocrat Peregrine Pearson.
The actress, who married Jonas in 2019, admits the journey hasn’t been easy but finds empowerment in her role as Joan, a character that has given her strength amid the upheaval.
"Joan changed me quite a lot," Turner shared. "From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition.
The series came around at a time in my life when I had to be ambitious and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength."
