Katy Perry made headlines for her astounding song choice and ‘bizarre’ CGI effects during her AFL Grand Final performance.
The 39-year-old US popstar became the subject of criticism after she took the stage in front of 100,000 AFL fans, headlining the pregame show ahead of the Brisbane Lions vs Sydney Swans showdown.
Viewers took to their social media to mercilessly mock her preference as she accompanied her real-life performance with a series of CGI effects.
Poking fun at the early-2000s video-game look of the CGI, one user posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “AFL preshow brought to you by Fortnite with all this CGI.”
Another chimed in, adding, “What the f**k was @channel7 thinking with those $5 CGI effects,' while a third wrote: 'Petition to not allow CGI during the #AFLGF practical effects only.”
A third wrote, “W*f is the CGI about? This is awful,' and a fifth joked: 'I hope the crowd at the MCG are enjoying the CGI.”
While a fourth mockingly said, “How much AFL pay for this?”
However, some fans were disappointed that Perry didn’t belt out her smash hit Hot N Cold, despite its association with MasterChef Australia.
