Matthew Perry's death linked to Hollywood 'drug ring' in new TMZ documentary
'TMZ investigates: Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring' aired on Monday, September 16, 2024
A new TMZ documentary is shedding light on a dark side of Hollywood, linking Matthew Perry’s tragic death to an alleged celebrity drug ring.
TMZ Investigates: Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring, which aired Monday, Sept. 16, on FOX and is streaming on Hulu, explores the events leading up to the Friends star’s passing and delves into the alleged role of doctors, dealers, and enablers.
The one-hour special examines “unscrupulous doctors and unethical rehab centers,” with insights from Botched star Dr. Terry Dubrow, TV personality Kelly Osbourne, and a former DEA agent, amongst others.
In a preview clip, Bill Bodner, the former DEA agent, discusses how the allure of fame often tempts doctors into crossing ethical lines. “When there’s money or celebrity involved, it leads to diversion outside of ethical bounds,” Bodner explains.
Corroborating Bodner’s point, Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Ozzy Osbourne, confesses, “All my drug dealers were doctors.”
Perry, 54, passed away in October 2023 from an accidental ketamine overdose at his Los Angeles home. The Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation, which eventually led to the August 2024 arrest of five individuals, including two doctors.
Perry had been open about his battles with addiction, and the documentary suggests he may have been exploited by those entrusted to help him.
