Meryl Streep and Martin Short are seemingly unable to shake off dating rumours despite their discreet move at the 2024 Emmy Award ceremony in Los Angeles.
The Only Murders in the Building co-stars have been under fans' radar for dating speculations especially after they their on-screen romance on the show.
Streep, 75, and Short, 74, arrived separately to the award ceremony on Sunday, but couldn't keep rumours at bay as they sat together for the whole evening.
In an intimate moment, the pair, who were both Emmy nominees for their performances in the Hulu show, kept smiling at each other and chatted in hushed tones, per a Us Weekly report.
The romance rumour first surfaced when the pair were sat together at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
Following the Globes, in January, a rep for Short clarified that the two, who play lovers onscreen, were not dating in real life.
“They are just very good friends, nothing more," the rep said.
Two months later, during an event, Short was asked about the Don’t Look Up actress.
“It was one of the great thrills of my life,” he gushed. “In fact, the first day of shooting — which was rare because I’m not brand new — I was driving to work and I thought, ‘I’m nervous today. I’m working with Meryl Streep.’”
Later in August, the pair sparked rumours again after they were spotted holding hands at the season 4 premiere after party of their Hulu series in Los Angeles.
Following the event, talking of Streep, with Extra, Short reflected “I think it’s been a friendship that always grows if you work with someone and love that person.”
