Nicole Kidman abruptly left the Venice Film Festival on Saturday after receiving the heartbreaking news of her mother’s passing.
The Big Little Lies actress was in Venice to celebrate her latest project but had to depart after learning of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman’s death at the age of 84.
While accepting the Best Actress award on Kidman’s behalf, Babygirl director Halina Reijn shared the news with the audience, citing a statement from Kidman.
The actress expressed her shock, saying, “I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me.”
Kidman continued to honor her mother, describing Janelle as “beautiful” and “brave.” She added, “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
A representative for the Oscar-winner confirmed the tragic news to Page Six, asking for privacy during this difficult time. Additional details about Janelle’s passing have not yet been disclosed.
