Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck approached their divorce with a plan.
Though rumours of a split had been swirling since May, the manner in which the singer and actress finally filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, came as a surprise, especially given the lack of legal counsel and a prenuptial agreement.
But according to a new report by US Weekly published Friday, the former couple — who were married for precisely two years to the date of their divorce filing — had discussed “all the details” of their separation.
Sources told the outlet that Lopez “finally pulled the trigger because that was their agreement that she would file, and she was the one who ultimately made the decision.”
A key issue in their separation involves their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion, a property they purchased just last year. After extensive renovations, the home was listed for $68 million in July.
Without a prenup to guide the division of assets, the insider explained, “There’s really nothing else to divide. One person doesn’t want more than the other. They both came in with significant assets of their own.”
