The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, was flooded with memes after Chinese gymnast Zhou Yaqin tried to bite her medal at the podium.

Following the interaction, the fans praised Zhou over her “little sister” energy, Today News reported.

“Like a lil sister copying her big sisters and it’s too cute!!” one commented.

Earlier on Monday, the 18-year-old athlete was awarded the silver medal in the women’s gymnastics balance beam final.

Moreover, Italian gymnasts Alice D’Amato, who won gold, and Manila Esposito, who took bronze, and Zhou, 18, smiled and posed for photographs and videos.

In the photo, the two Italian athletes could be seen performing the tradition of “medal chomp” after gaining victory, spurring Zhou to do a double take.

The tradition appeared to be new to the Chinese athlete and left her astonished, leading her to try the gesture herself.

However, the commentators reported that she didn’t actually bite the medal.

The wholesome moment of interaction has spurred memes and reactions.

“Just holds it in front of her mouth!” one X user pointed out. “I love it.”

Additionally, some users posted about the athlete’s energy on their X handle.

“She is me and I am her,” another X user wrote by relating with Zhou. “Except no I am not a medalist.”

Similarly, one person wrote: “This Chinese medalist is so relatable. We’ve all been there.”

One fan commented: “This is giving when you go to Rome you do what the romans do.”

Another person followed the trend by sharing the video: “Me trying to fit in at any social event.”

One user said: “Me in just about any situation that requires you to look like you know what you’re doing.”

Meanwhile, some pointed out how the moment is a reflection of the Olympic Games' ability to break down prejudice and stereotypes about different countries. "My (favorite) part of the Olympics are the cultural differences shown by the athletes. A true learning curve,” one wrote.
