Prince Harry Meghan Markle, who appeared for an interview together for an important cause, ended up sending a poignant message to the royal family.
While addressing effects of the online bullying in the new CBS interview, an unexpected moment led Meghan to reflect on her time with the royals.
A simple comment was seemingly enough to “undoubtedly damage the institution" by reopening old wounds, according to royal commentator, Richard Fitzwilliams.
Journalist Jane Pauley on the CBS Sunday Morning show replayed a clip of their bombshell 2021 Oprah interview in which Meghan talks about suicide.
The Duchess of Sussex, who was not expecting the question, did end up responding, “I haven't really scraped the surface of my experience, but I do think I would never want someone else to feel that way, or for someone else to make those sort plans, or for someone else to not be believed.”
Fitzwilliams told The Sun that the Oprah interview "was like a placing a nuclear bomb in the courtyard of Buckingham Palace" when it came out.
The expert suggest that the use of the clips was enough to do “so much harm to the royal family” especially during a time when King Charles and Kate Middleton are dealing with their cancer battles.
"What Meghan said in the CBS interview about the issues and her mental health and the fact that she felt suicidal is a very, very serious charge to lay against the royal family,” Fitzwilliams said.
"If you want a relationship of any sort and you give interviews of this sort that bring up memories that will undoubtedly damage the institution, clearly you won't get it.
He surmised that Harry and Meghan don’t seem to be in a mood to “bridge that gap or mend that rift” since they continue to rehash their past, especially concerning the royal family.
