Finneas O’Connell has come to the defence of his sister, Billie Eilish, following backlash over her verse on the remix of Charli XCX’s track Guess.
The song, featured on the extended edition of Charli’s album Brat, has sparked controversy after a TikTok user labelled Eilish’s contribution as “high-key predatory.”
Finneas did not hold back in his rebuttal, writing, “What a take, you little clown,” in a since-deleted comment on a TikTok post brimming with the accusations via The Independent.
He continued, “I got to watch the entire internet slam my sister for queerbaiting for an entire year when, in reality, you were all forcing her to label and out herself.”
The remix, released on August 2, sees Eilish delivering a sultry verse where she sings, “I wanna try it, bite it, lick it, spit it / Pull it to the side and get all up in it / Kiss it, bite it, can I fit it? / Charli likes boys, but she knows I’d hit it.”
Critics took issue with the lyrics, accusing Eilish of using predatory language in a track already known for its provocative nature.
Tik Tok user @windows199x chimed in, “Billie’s verse on Guess is high-key predatory, but y’all blinded her usual queerbaiting for commercial gain. Ever since the Lost Cause controversy, she’s been reducing girls to mere objects, all in an effort to convince the masses that she’s actually into them lol.”
