President Joe Biden hit the nation, and celebrities, with a shock announcing his exit from the 2024 presidential race against Donald Trump on Sunday.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” the 81-year-old wrote in a statement.
“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
In a follow-up announcement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential “nominee of our party this year.”
The news didn’t go unnoticed by the stars of the country.
Star Trek actor George Takei wrote on X, “I want to honor our President @JoeBiden. He has served our nation admirably for decades, he is a decent honorable man, a hugely successful president, and a patriot. Now let us unite behind @KamalaHarris and defeat Donald Trump in November!”
Lil Nas X wrote in the comment section of Biden’s Instagram post, “Wow It’s really jover.”
“Star Wars” star Mark Hamill also chimed in, sharing, “Joe Biden has a record of accomplishments unmatched by any president in our lifetime. He restored honesty, dignity & integrity to the office after 4 years of lies, crime, scandal & chaos.”
“Joe Biden will go down in history as a man who accomplished significant achievements in his 4 year term. We should be grateful for his upholding of our democracy,” Barbra Streisand wrote.
Jon Stewart simply recorded his sentiments by writing, “Legend.”
“Thank you, Mr. President for your leadership and your lifetime of service,” Uzo Aduba commented on Instagram.
“Thank you Mr President for leading with kindness, change and class!,” Melissa Joan Hart added in the Instagram comments.
