Spain won the Euro crown for the 4th time after beating England 2-1 on Sunday in Berlin.

Spain’s win solidified their place as an international football powerhouse while England had to endure more than five and half decades without a trophy.

Notably, Spain’s influential midfielder, Rodri, limped off the pitch at half-time, but the team managed to recover from this setback and scored a goal less than two minutes after the breather.

Nico Williams opened the score, assisted by his fellow winger, Lamine Yamal. England which showed great character as observed in the tournament leveled through Cole Palmer, a substitute. Palmer equalised for the team after coming off the bench at the 73rd of the match.

However, the period of reviving was not long for England. The Real Sociedad forward Oyarzabal made a cross in the 86th minute to give Spain the fourth European Championship triumph.

It has secured their third crown in the last five championships having won in 1964, 2008 and 2012. Whether this new generation, lead by the talent Yamal, who was playing just a day after his 17th birthday, can achieve same results as previous team it is yet to be seen.

However, it must be noted that their triumph was merited. The Spanish side has been the best team over the past month in Germany and didn’t seem to be bothered by the predominantly English audience at the Olympiastadion.

England had their sights set on winning the men’s international title for the first time since the 1966 world cup and had reached their first final outside of the British Isles. After losing on penalties to Italy 3 years ago, they are the first team to lose two consecutive Euros finals.

Harry Kane is still a 30-year-old captain who has not won the first trophy of his career, and he also had a goal-filled season with Bayern Munich but again without the trophy.
