Prince Harry may have jeopardised any future accolades he may get after the massive backlash he received, according to a royal expert.
The Duke of Sussex accepted the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2024 ESPYs during that Thursday’s star-studded ceremony, despite objection from Pat’s own mother.
However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that there wasn’t going to be change in plans even with the mounting criticism.
“There was no question Harry would accept this. The award was never going to be withdrawn,” he told the outlet. “But there's the fact that 70,000 people apparently have felt that it shouldn't be.”
Fitzwilliams also added that Pat Tillman’s mother, Mary, thought that Prince Harry “was not of a character the sort of person who should get it.”
Last month, Pat Tillman’s mother told Daily Mail that she was “shocked” and there were “far more fitting” recipients for the award than “controversial and divisive” Prince Harry
The royal commentator continued, “I think that any award that doesn't want controversy will think twice before awarding it to either the Sussexes in the future.”
