Abigail Breslin revealed receiving “death threats” after she called out Katy Perry through X on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Scream Queens former star alum opened up about facing extreme criticism after sharing a tweet that some fans thought was against the Firework hitmaker for working with producer Dr. Luke on her forthcoming album.
Dr. Luke faced abuse accusations by Kesha in a 2014 lawsuit of sexual assault and other forms of assualt, which he ultimately denied and both ends got to a settlement in 2023.
“So I made a post condemning abusers and supporting an artist I love... and apparently that means receiving death threats... cool,” Abigail shared.
The star's statement came hours after her tweet, in which she wrote, “I'm just saying... working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it.”
She further wrote, “On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows ive ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!”
Although the Oscar nominee didn't mention Katy or Dr. Luke by name in her tweet, some fans and critics suggested she might have referred to the pair, considering that Perry's new song Woman's World was co-written and co-produced by Dr. Luke.
Abigail didn’t delay her response to the criticism her initial tweet received, “omggggg guys really...? I didn't say anything awful, everyone calm down,” she shared.
“I said I dont support abusers. crucify me. and I also never said I have an amazing music career. God... calm down.”
“Also, I've been a long time advocate against SA (sexual abuse) and DV (domestic violence),” she added, “so I'm not gonna stop speaking out about it regardless of how many of you tell me to im worthless and disgusting and awful.”
She continued in another tweet, “Im not gonna stop speaking out against abuse. I never said a negative thing about your fave. Please relax.”
“Im allowed to have a perspective. You’re allowed to roast my career and treat me horribly but idk why you would. I stand by what I said. Gn.”
