Hilarie Burton had a very emotional last day of work when she left One Tree Hill in its sixth season, and how her co-star Sophia Bush made it better.
During the latest episode of Burton’s podcast, Drama Queens – which she co-hosts with the OTH girls Bethany Joy Lenz and Bush – Burton reflected on filming for the season 6 finale, after which she exited the show.
“Everyone was saying goodbye to me, but it felt like a funeral,” Burton, who portrayed Peyton Sawyer, recalled.
She further admitted, “It was awkward and awful. People would put their head on my shoulder and say, ‘Well, I’ll see you next season,’ and I kept being like, ‘No you won’t! What are you guys talking about?’”
However, Bush – who portrayed Peyton’s best friend, Brooke Davis – had her back.
“You were the only person who believed that I was leaving. Having Moira [Kelly] say it was really important, and having you believe it was really important,” Burton told Bush.
“It was a bad time and you did something really nice in that moment. I’ve moved houses 8 million times and that has always stayed in the drawer next to my bed,” she further gushed, referring to a ring Bush gifted her on her last day.
